Muskies Comeback at New Lenox Falls Short

The Muskies' effort to come back from down seven runs in the sixth inning came up just short, as they fell 9-7 to the New Lenox Pumas on Thursday at Lincoln-Way Central High School. 

 

New Lenox got on the board in the bottom of the first inning with two runs off starter Michael Leonard on an Andrew Rodriguez double and a Mickey McDowell RBI single.  A solo home run to left field by Lucas Acevedo gave the Puma's a 3-0 lead in the second.  The Muskies got a in the third on Andy Gaytan's RBI single but gave it back in the bottom of the frame on an error making the score 4-1.  The Pumas extended their lead to 7-1 in the fourth.  In the sixth, Mark Dye drove home the second Muskie run of the night to make the score 7-2.  In the bottom of the sixth, another Muskie error resulted in two more Puma runs making the score 9-2.  The Muskies rallied to score five runs on five hits in the top of the seventh inning. AJ Le (pictured) and Dye each drove in two runs in the frame.  The Muskies had runners on base in the eight and ninth but failed to score as the game ended with a 9-2 final.

 

Tyler Snoreck pitched four and two-thirds innings in relief for Beecher. The reliever gave up six hits and two runs (none earned) while, striking out five and walking one. Michael Leonard took the loss. The right-handed pitcher went three and one-third innings, allowing seven runs (five earned) on seven hits, striking out six and walking three. 

 

The Muskies amassed nine hits in the game. Andrew Olszewski and Le were a force together at the top of the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Muskies.

 

The loss drops the Muskies to 11-5 in Chicago Suburban Baseball League play.  The play next at Beecher on Sunday against the Oswego Cats in a 1 PM CSBL doubleheader.

Five Muskies to Represent CSBL in All Star Game

The Chicago Suburban Baseball League Collegiate All Stars will take on the Crestwood Collegiate League All Stars on July 7 at Ozinga Field in Crestwood.  Five Muskies have been selected to represent the CSBL.

 

Pitcher/DH Camden Kearney, who will begin work on his Masters Degree at Olivet Nazarene University this fall, was named to the squad.  He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside this spring and will play his final year of college baseball at ONU.  He is currently hitting .275 and has a made 6 appearances out of the Muskies bullpen with 1 save to his credit.  Another recent transfer to ONU, catcher Andrew Mack will also represent the CSBL.  He is currently hitting at a .389 clip.  Third baseman Nolan Czako, who will be a junior at Loras College, is hitting .304 with 13 RBI will be a part of the CSBL squad as well.  First baseman Patrick Carmody who just completed his sophomore year at Illinois Wesleyan University and Zack Millsap from the University of Illinois-Chicago round out the Muskies all star list.  Millsap has a 2.35 ERA and has struck out 13 batters in 6 appearances.
